/photos/images/Greek and Roman Art.jpg Greek and Roman Art
Greek and Roman art have long been grouped together—indeed, until about the 16th century, few Europeans differentiated between the two. Shown here is a collection of Greek and Roman works at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Highlights of the collection include examples of Cypriot, Greek, and Roman sculpture; painted Greek vases; Roman portrait busts; and Roman wall paintings. This visitor examines some of the collection’s portrait busts and the relief sculpture of a sarcophagus (stone coffin).
