Like many of the buildings designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, completed in 1994, features a broad central cylinder with a striking pattern worked into its stone surface. The central cylinder provides a focal point for the exterior as well as an ample source of daylight for the interior.
